GuavaPass Takes Abu Dhabi

Guava Pass Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi residents and fitness fanatics, it’s time to celebrate because GuavaPass has arrived in the capital.

Unfamiliar with the concept? GuavaPass is a monthly membership that lets you search, book and enjoy unlimited fitness classes at top studios in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and across Asia. The super slick website and mobile app make it easier than ever to find the right workout at the right time at a studio close to you. (For all of the Americans out there — it’s just like ClassPass.)

I’ve been testing out the membership all month long and I have to admit that I’ve officially converted to the #GuavaGirl lifestyle. Let me tell you why.

Instead of sticking to my fairly monotonous and boring routine at the gym, I’m starting to have fun with fitness. I’ve swapped my lonely, solo runs on the treadmill with high energy Barre workouts, yoga sessions at Saadiyat Beach Club and, when I finally work up enough confidence, even CrossFit. With such a large variety of class offerings, GuavaPass has truly inspired me to get out of my comfort zone and challenge myself with fitness sessions that I never would have tried before.

The system has also pushed me to be active more regularly. After a hectic work day, the last thing I normally want to do is hit the gym — even though I know how much better I feel afterwards. A few months ago, I even tried scheduling workouts into my calendar, like I would with a doctor's appointment, in the hope that it would help me hold myself accountable. Unfortunately, it was all too easy to bump back my made up time blocks and the whole system quickly crumbled.

Signing up for classes (and the small fine you get for skipping) has stopped me from making excuses and helped me finally keep my fitness commitments. Even if it’s just attending one or two classes per week. Although, knowing that I have unlimited access to classes each month has definitely pushed me to take on more sessions, especially compared to when I’ve bought traditional class packages at studios in the past.

There have also been a few unexpected benefits I’ve noticed with using GuavaPass. As someone who is guilty of having my phone attached to my hand at all times (even while running on the aforementioned treadmill), participating in class activities has helped me carve out an hour of my day where I can completely unplug. No emailing. No texting. No social media. It’s been fantastic.

Another surprise perk — spending time with friends. If you know me in a real life, then you know how much I’ve been chatting about GuavaPass this past month. It was only a matter of time before I found a few friends who were also signed up. Now, instead of our typical coffee or cocktail catchups, we’re sweating it out together at a workout class. I have to say, I’m loving the fun and healthy twist for our meet ups.

The membership has also been a great way to make new friends. GuavaPass regularly puts on or partners up for events. If you haven’t checked out their awesome ROAR pop-up with PUMA Middle East in Dubai Design District (April - May 2017), you are seriously missing out. Your membership may be based online, but there really is a living, breathing and growing GuavaPass community here in the UAE.

You don’t have to take my word for it though. Sign up and see for yourself. Check out the GuavaPass FAQ page for even more details and the answers to all of your membership questions. Plus, get 30% off your first month when you use the code “AllisonGuavas”. What are you waiting for?
